2007 marked 20 years of business for Grimball Cotterill & Associates. In
1987, Morgan and Mark left Kentucky for South Carolina with ambitions to open
their own design firm. Since the early days, clients have appreciated the
accessibility and innovative solutions of GCA, and the firm has enjoyed an ever-expanding
client base and steady business growth. With a high degree of repeat business
and word-of-mouth referrals, the partners have remained committed to providing
individual attention in a small studio environment.

Morgan
Grimball,
ASLA, a Greenville, SC native, earned a BA in business administration from Presbyterian
College in 1974. He earned a Master’s in landscape architecture
from the University of GA, and trained in the Walterboro office
of Robert Marvin. Morgan has strong
construction management skills and a deep knowledge of plant material. He has
served on the executive committee of the SC Chapter of the American Society of
Landscape Architects, the board of The Family Shelter, and currently serves
on the Richland County Transportation Study Committee.

Mark Cotterill,
ASLA, grew up in Lexington, KY and earned a Bachelor’s degree in landscape
architecture from UK in 1982. A talented visual artist, Mark’s strengths
are in design and visual communication. He is also skilled at troubleshooting
unique site challenges. Mark has served on the board of the Columbia Community
Design Center and on the Columbia Tree and Appearance Commission.

Emily
Freeman Jones,
ASLA, a Virginia native, graduated with an anthropology degree from Bard College
in upstate New York in 1984. She earned a Master’s in landscape architecture
from North Carolina State University in 1991. Emily joined GCA in 2001. Her
role is managing design, production and marketing. She is a LEED-Accredited
Professional and a member of the Columbia Tree and Appearance Commission.
